the software world 2020
Our boss's boss flew in for a special message. We all crowded into the largest conference room and sat around an aircraft carrier size table. He got up to explain that high paid engineers were a drain on the company. The company had to do something to reduce their costs, and one cost center was high paid software engineers. They had a special project that they needed us to do. We really needed to come through on this one so they could quit paying so much for high paid software engineers and start using high school students. No I'm not kidding. Our assignment was to write software that would allow low paid students to configure our applications and to configure our products with such simplicity that no programming was needed. Then they could get rid of us. Their profits would soar, they could have that big house and that big car they always wanted, and they could send us to the unemployment line. I'm not making this up.
